It's a little dusty around here!

Whew!

We took a big/little break around here!

My last entry was in March!

Since March, we have looked at close to 50 houses and prepared our house to sell it. This meant packing, painting and purging. At the very end of May we made an offer on a new house. Four days later, we listed our house for sale.

The Thursday before we were going to take the house off the market (maybe?) and while we were in Yellowstone national park, we accepted an offer on our house.

In July, we traveled to through Iowa to Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and through Kansas to home again.

More packing and packing.

John had the opportunity to travel via aircraft carrier in August. He flew out on a Wednesday and returned home the following Thursday. Friday morning, the movers arrived. We were supposed to close on Monday, but it got pushed until Tuesday. The movers arrived with our belongings on Thursday. We left to attend John's brother's wedding the next day.

The big kids started a new school while John was in Hawaii. G started a new preschool school the day we closed on our house.

To say it has been busy is an understatement. Sadly the blog has had to take a backseat to the craziness. Now that things are settled down a little, it is my hope to spend a little more time updating here again.

Goodbye sweet Mudd

Matilda Mae Mudd
4/2/03-3/14/16

She and her brother were our first babies. We simply adored them. She slept on my pillow most nights with her paws on my hair. She was there to greet us when we came home and she loved to play.

It was harder with the human babies around. It was just more to manage. But, she was still there everyday. She was a great companion- at least until the baby started to cry and then she hit the road.

As she (and her brother) got older the health issues started piling up. This made juggling the needs of cats and kids even more tricky. I'm not always sure we handled it right, but we sure did try hard. In mid February, we were told our sweet girl had inoperable stomach cancer. She had dropped from a 10.5 lb cat to just 4.5 lbs. figuring out how to treat something in an animal who doesn't speak is so difficult. She couldn't tell us if she was in pain or if something was wrong. Although we knew the end was near, we did have a few more precious weeks with our girl. We spoiled her a little extra and gave her some extra love. William offered his life savings to save her life. This broke my heart in hundreds of ways because there just wasn't a way to explain to him that there wasn't going to be a permanent fix for her problem. Anything we could do was going to be a very temporary fix for a growing cancer problem.

So, with a very heavy heart we said goodbye to our little black cat with a great big heart.

Mom and dad Halloween

We were invited to a friends' yearly Halloween celebration again this year. This party requires costumes and John and I were ready this year! John was Waldo and I was Carmen sandiego.

Halloween chaos

Halloween is so chaotic. Getting 3 kids into costumes and keeping them there is harder than you think it might be. Feeding them, making sure they use the restroom and are not ready to go hours before it is time are all problems.

This would explain why I have only 1 or 2 pictures of all the 3 kids dressed up and ready to go this Halloween.

William decided he wanted to be a dragon/dinosaur.

Amelia was Elsa from frozen and Gemma was Anna from frozen.

Amelia's costume parties

Amelia had a costume party for her Girl Scout troop and a costume night for ballet. This time of year is busy!

Gemma's Halloween library party

The library had a costume parade as part of storytime. Gemma couldn't decide what costume to choose and finally settled on Princess Anna from Frozen. The Frozen characters were strongly represented at the party, although Gemma was the only Princess Anna.

Family fun night

Amelia's school hosted a family game night in October. I'm sad to say we almost didn't go (after a long, busy week I like to just sit on my couch).  At the last minute, Amelia and I snuck out for some one on one time.

One of the game stations was a "minute to win it" game. Each game was less than a minute in length and when your number was called, you weren't sure what you were going to be asked to do.

Here is brave Amelia playing minute to win it against a much bigger girl (spoiler: and winning!)

(She won a pencil)
