More beach fun

More beach

Beach!

Well, it wasn't a white sand beach with palm trees, but it was a beautiful beach on Lake Superior. The lake was about 42 degrees and the air temperature was about 65 degrees, so it wasn't really swimsuit weather.

Guess what?

No one cared.

The kids were delighted to find rocks and sticks and play in the sand. They threw rocks in, dug trenches and designs in the sand. Amelia couldn't wait to wade in the water which meant that Gemma wasn't very far behind. No one wanted to leave. When the grown ups decided we had to leave, it was like herding kittens. Or turtles. Or squirrels. The kids didn't want to leave the beach.

We would get one or two up to the sidewalk, turn around and find the third kid in the water. John or I would go down and grab that kid and find one of the other two had wandered back to lay down in the sand. It probably took close to 45 minutes to get everyone off the beach. It is a sign that everyone was having fun!

3 kids

At the beach, no one was interested in having a photo. They were more interested in throwing more rocks in the water. I will spare the hours of video I took at their request: " please mom! Just one more video of me throwing this rock!"

Lighthouse views, again

I don't think I could ever get tired of this view. At this point, I asked John if we could just move here. So beautiful!

The lighthouse views

The views! The views I tell you were amazing. Even though they required going down 300+ steps to see all the views, it was worth it! Even though we had to go back UP the steps while carrying a tired Gemma, it was worth it!

Also, Amelia thought it was funny to hold a lighthouse in her hand.

Duluth day 1: Split rock lighthouse

We ate a picnic lunch in the car and then headed out to stop #2- Split Rock lighthouse. This is another stop my family made on our family vacation many years ago and I don't remember anything about it. But, it was just down the road from gooseberry falls, so we went to check it out.

We took a little guided tour and saw some spectacular views. The kids enjoyed going up in the lighthouse - it was pretty interesting even though the steps on the way down were a little steep for this mama's liking!
